This webinar will be focused on the most promising CCUS value chains selected in the Baltic and Mediterranean regions based on a SWOT analysis and a generic framework coming from the high-level screening methodology presented in WP1 (Gravaud, 2024) and fthe analyses of nontechnical parameters studied in WP2 (Honegger et al, 2024 ).
Description
The main objectives of the study is to identify the most promising CCUS value chains in the Baltic and Mediterranean regions based on SWOT analysis and to establish a generic framework for the selection of the most prospective CCUS value chains, based on the high-level screening methodology presented in WP1 (Gravaud, 2024) and integrated with analyses of nontechnical parameters studied by WP2 (Honegger et al, 2024 ). The full list of the internal technical parameters and external non-technical and technical factors of CCUS projects will be presented, which could be applied to qualitative SWOT analysis of CCUS projects with onshore and offshore storage. Quantitative analysis is possible for the common parameters (shortened list), or separately for offshore and onshore projects.
The objective of this webinar is to discuss the requirements and advantages of obtaining an EU Project of Common Interest (PCI) certification. The classification as a PCI is crucial for vital energy infrastructure projects within the EU, supporting the European goal for climate neutrality by 2050 by interconnecting energy systems of Member States, enhancing market competition, and securing energy supply. The study performed identifies potential CCUS infrastructure candidates for PCI and lists the main factors that set them in line with the Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E) Regulation. An initial stakeholder assessment for the Baltic and Mediterranean Sea regions' proposed infrastructure projects is suggested. The presentation also provides insight into existing EU PCIs that relate to CCUS initiatives, drawing parallels and inferring suitability for new applications.
