Activité
IVA Essex manufactures and commercializes enameling varnishes to insulate electrical wire and, most notably, the copper and aluminum wires found in household appliances and automotive equipment, as well as to coat aerosol cans and kitchen utensils. IVA Essex is the world’s second-leading insulation provider.
The company, based in Meyzieu, near Lyon, France, employs 65 people and has an enamel varnish production capacity of 18,000 tons per year.
Product performance is tested at the manufacturing site, and the varnishes manufactured are then sent to customers, where they are applied in high-temperature furnaces. The varnishes are formulated to meet customers’ specifications for thermal, chemical, and electrical resistance according to the intended use and level of performance required.
IVA Essex holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 certifications, possesses an in-house R&D lab, a pilot production line for scale-up, a testing lab, and an application and quality control lab.

Produits, technologies & services
IVA Essex produces varnishes with a complex formulation combining solvents, prepolymers, and additives.
The company offers a variety of enameling varnishes to meet its customers thermal class and performance requirements:
- polyvinyl ace- to-formal, polyurethane, polyesterimide, polyamide, Polyimide, nylon.
IVA’s more than 200 products cover thermal classes from 120 °C to 220 °C. Varnishes are applied to wires in multiple layers in high-tem- perature (400 °C - 750 °C), high-throughput (100- 1,000 m/min) enameling furnaces. The solvents are evaporated and the prepolymer is reticulated by flash curing. The resulting insulation offers the advantage of being just a few microns thick, for more efficient use of space and better energy yield when used in electric motors.
