Created in 1991, the ISTP aims to support industrial companies through the development of individual and collective skills, promoting sustainable competitiveness. In close proximity to the economic world, the institute places its activities in four areas of training allowing it to address the major industrial, energy, digital and managerial transitions.
The ISTP has been a CFA since 2019. The ISTP notably trains engineering students with salaried status at the Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne.
The ISTP has developed a business consulting activity.

The ISTP trains the engineers in apprenticeship of the Mines Saint-Etienne in 4 specialties (Industrial Engineering, Energy Recovery, Nuclear Engineering and on-board electronic systems).
The ISTP supports the development of the skills and posture of the employee through 5 dedicated programs:
• Engineer specializing in "Industrial Engineering" (graduated from Mines Saint-Etienne),
• Engineer specializing in "Industrial Engineering" (graduated from Mines Saint-Etienne),
• Company management (CGE label from Mines Saint-Etienne),
• BRIDGE "digital transition" in the part of the EMBA of EM Lyon,
• Change management and strategy with IRUP.
