RÉSUMÉ PUBLIABLE

VARIAN is a hybrid, light and resistant composite material, obtained by impregnating a linen fabric with a starch-based thermoplastic resin without solvent. VARIAN is thus biosourced and compostable. This innovative material has already won over many interior designers, who use it to furnish public areas, a market that represents more than 10 million square meters installed per year with an average renewal frequency of 7 years. For this market, Varian must be fireproofed M1 "non-flammable", an essential performance for this sector. Nevertheless, the added flame retardants degrade the environmental impact of the VARIAN, even if this impact remains less than that of competing products.

Eco-design and the improvement of living spaces being at the heart of Culture iN's DNA, a consortium of industrialists and academics was brought together to eco-design a non-flammable VARIAN with the lowest possible environmental impact. The objective of the project is to add a minimum of flame retardants through a radiografting technology and to synthesize eco-designed flame retardants.

The VARIAN material developed will have many applications in transportation interiors in addition to housing.
